Watch Blur Play “There Are Too Many Of Us” At Magic Whip Secret Show (Stereogum Premiere)
Last Friday, Blur played a secret show for 300 people at the West London club Mode. Can you even imagine? I’m a lifelong Blur fan who has seen the band at clubs that would, in most circumstances, be considered pretty small, and I will be the first to say: That is a goddamn TINY room and I am INTENSELY jealous of everyone who was in attendance. Blur’s set was almost completely limited to their upcoming album, The Magic Whip, which they played straight though in its entirety. The eighth song on that album is “There Are Too Many Of Us,” the studio version of which made its debut last week. “There Are Too Many Of Us” is my favorite of the three Magic Whip songs we’ve heard so far (the other two are “Go Out” and “Lonesome Street“), and today, we’ve got video of the band performing the song at their Mode show. No, it is not almost as good as being there — not even close. But it’s the closest we’re gonna get. Watch. Below that, you can watch the secret show performances of the other two previously released Magic Whip songs.
