Jacob Dillan Summers is an ex-Marine who was raised on a diet of Christian music — not a combination you stumble upon often. Add in his drum corps championships, and his musical project Avid Dancer starts to make sense. The latest track from his forthcoming debut album 1st Bath is “Not Far To Go.” It’s built on seriously sculpted rhythms and blissed out guitar work, but the vocals barely rise above a whisper. Imagine the sensitivity of Sufjan Stevens with a grooving, psychedlic backbone in place of sparse acoustics.
