Allison Crutchfield – “Special To Me” (Phantom Of The Paradise Cover)
Record Store Day may have rejected Faux Real II, a new compilation from Father/Daughter Records, but that doesn’t mean you should. The comp features DIY-scene heavy hitters like Chumped, Krill, and LVL UP covering songs that fictional artists sang in movies. Lately, Swearin’ frontwoman Allison Crutchfield has been backing up her twin sister Katie in Waxahatchee’s touring band. But she also took the time to record a solo cover of “Special To Me,” a Paul Williams-written song that Jessica Harper sang in the 1974 cult-classic horror-musical Phantom Of The Paradise. Crutchfield’s version is a homespun synthy affair. You can hear it and watch the scene from the original movie below.
Faux Real II is out 4/28 on Father/Daughter. It’s being limited to 500 vinyl copies and won’t be released digitally.
