Pavo Pavo – “Ran Ran Run” (Stereogum Premiere)
Pavo Pavo make weightless pop music that sounds like it was beamed down from a glimmering utopian future. The Brooklyn five-piece (formerly known as Plume Giant) met and began writing songs while studying together at Yale, and now that they’re entangled in the Brooklyn music scene, they share members with San Fermin and Sam Cohen’s backing band, and other members have collaborated with Dave Longstreth and Here We Go Magic’s Luke Temple. Their first album, Young Narrator In The Breakers, will arrive later this year, and their debut 7″ single will be out in a couple of weeks. A-side “Ran Ran Run” positively glows, moving from psychedelic orchestral stateliness to punchy hand-clap pop without missing a beat, with synths, piano, and shimmering Grizzly Bear-esque vocal harmonies flitting in and out at will. This is a supremely confident first statement, a great introduction that only promises more good things to come. Hear it below.
“Ran Ran Run” b/w “Annie Hall” is out 5/18 (pre-order it here), with Young Narrator In The Breakers to follow later in 2015. They’re also playing a 5/22 release show opening for Sam Cohen at NYC’s Mercury Lounge, and you can purchase tickets for that here.
