The Who embarked on an extensive 50th anniversary tour this spring, and just last week, Rolling Stone published a very candid interview with Pete Townshend in which the guitarist spoke about how much he doesn’t enjoy performing. That probably bummed out a lot of fans who spent loads of money to see their favorite band on what’s been billed as their last-ever tour (Townshend is doubtful), but anyone who chose to attend last night’s show in Chicago lucked out. Townshend and Eddie Vedder announced in April that they would perform side-by-side to benefit Teen Cancer America at the Rosemont Theater. The duo performed songs by both Pearl Jam and the Who, including Vedder’s “Last Will And Testament,” which hasn’t been played live since 1999, as well as a slew of classics like “The Kids Are Alright,” “Summertime Blues,” and “Behind Blue Eyes.” Rock star pals Joan Jett, Joe Walsh, and Rick Nielsen also made guest appearances before the night wrapped up with a rendition of “My Generation.” Despite what he said last week, Townshend looked like he was having a good time last night.
