Gangrene – “Hot Pillow” (Stereogum Premiere)
Producers/MCs the Alchemist and Oh No met back in 2010 and formed hip-hop psych project Gangrene. Since then, the duo has a slew of albums and EPs and brought together Earl Sweatshirt and Future Islands’ Samuel T. Herring for the latest Grand Theft Auto soundtrack. “Hot Pillow” is the bonus track off their upcoming album You Disgust Me. The song samples from a bunch of places, most notably the eerie narratives of the Central Scrutinizer from Frank Zappa’s 1979 rock opera, Joe’s Garage (a satirical commentary on politics, society and the music industry). With a mantra of “Drink, smoke, light one up, pass me a cup of that good shit,” it’s a track for the chronically high. Listen.
