One of Canada’s many eminent music awards is the Polaris Music Prize and, today, they’ve announced their shortlist of ten records, shortened down from the original list of 40 contenders that was released last month. The past two winners were Tanya Tagaq and Godspeed You! Black Emperor, both of which came attached with some controversy. Maybe this year’s nominees will be a little more even-keeled, as is the stereotypical Canadian way. Here’s the shortlist:

The host of this year’s gala will be Fred Penner. It’ll take place at 9/21 at the Carlu in Toronto. Everyone on the shortlist will receive $3,000, while the winner will take home $50,000.
