Sports – “Reality TV”
Recent Band To Watch and Father/Daughter signees Sports have the uncanny ability to fit a universe of worry into several minutes of dizzying pop-punk, and no matter how specific Carmen Perry’s lyrics are, they sound relatable to anyone standing on the precipice of adulthood. The band’s newest single, “Reality TV,” is a shout-out to the people you hang out with or the television shows you watch when you’re looking for distraction. “Take my mind off the empty space in this heart of mine/ I’ll take your mind off the empty space in your bed tonight.” There are certain friends — be they the Kardashians, Duggars (yikes), or your roommates — who are capable of re-routing a crappy day better than others. By telling such a tale, this song recalls Colleen Green’s excellent homage to time-wasting, “TV.” Listen below via Noisey.
