OBN III’s – “Let The Music” (Stereogum Premiere)
OBN III’s make beer-swillin’, guitar-totin’, good old fashioned American rock ‘n’ roll, the kind of thing that you’d blast a little too loud while getting a little too day-drunk at a backyard BBQ. The Austin band are gearing up for the release of their fourth studio album, Worth A Lot Of Money, and they’ve moved up from self-producing to working with frequent Spoon producer Mike McCarthy. New song “Let The Music” makes its intentions clear from the start, as soon as that big Thin Lizzy guitar lead kicks in, and things pretty much proceed exactly as you’d expect — this is just unpretentious, uncomplicated, deeply satisfying music. “There’s no message to be weakened/ If you let the music do the speakin’,” frontman Orville Bateman Neeley III sings, before later following that up with “Ain’t gonna do no more singin’/ Let the guitars do that.” Accordingly, the last minute or so is all instrumental dual-guitar shredding and soloing, and it’s great. Listen.
