Mykki Blanco – “Coke White, Starlight”
Just about six months ago, Mykki Blanco announced that he was done with making music forever. That obviously didn’t happen, and the project’s ambitions have only widened since then: Last month, Blanco announced the upcoming release of C-ORE, a compilation that would serve as an introduction to his new label, Dogfood Music Group. The announcement was accompanied by a dark, twisted short film that laid bare the aesthetic the new project would fall into. “Coke White, Starlight,” one of Blanco’s solo tracks that will be included on the compilation, continues that descent into oblivion. Produced by Jeremiah Meece, the new track starts off with Blanco rapping “They don’t wanna see a man in a dress succeed” over a murky beat that whips into focus on the second half. Blanco’s aggression and frustration comes through cleanly, spitting out insults at others as quickly and deftly as he turns the knife inwards. Listen below.
