Gangsta Boo is a founding member of the seismically important Memphis crew Three 6 Mafia, and I’d argue that she’s one of the greatest female rappers of all time. A couple of decades into her career, she’s finding ways to stay relevant. Last year, she and Houston strip-club monster Beatking released the very good collaborative mixtape Underground Cassette Tape Music. She also made a scene-stealing guest appearance on Run The Jewels’ “Love Again (Akinyele Back),” and she’s lately been showing up at their shows (especially the festival sets) and ripping shit. Last night, she released a new solo mixtape called Candy, Diamonds, & Pills. And while this one isn’t a Beatking collaboration, Beatking does rap on one song, and he produces four of them.
