Chilly Gonzales always makes some salient points in his Pop Music Masterclass video series, and his latest looks at the influences behind Hozier’s inescapable bore “Take Me To Church.” He discusses its waltz-like construction, its relationship to gospel music and funereal marches, and its similarity to Feist’s Metals track “How Come You Never Go There.” Gonzales makes it clear that he has a personal relationship with Feist, but their songs do sound similar enough that I could hear the resemblance.
