Max Pope - "Less Than Nothing" (Stereogum Premiere)
The daydreaming, chilled-out pop sounds of 20-year-old Max Pope reminds me of those listless days where you just want to lie on a reclining chair and toss all your obligations to the wayside. Only a few songs have surfaced online from this young, promising singer-songwriter from Brighton, England. The latest, “Less Than Nothing,” is the title track to his upcoming debut EP. There’s a carefree naiveté and youthful spirit about the song that brings to mind another laid-back singer-songwriter, Mac DeMarco. A bluesy horn section meanders in near the end, which adds a lovely finishing touch. Listen below along with previous single “All That I Need.”
Less Than Nothing is out later this fall.
