We named four-piece folk-rock outfit Florist a Band To Watch last year off of the strength of their Holdly EP, and while that was superb, it was merely an introduction to their full-length The Birds Sang Outside. They’ve shared the title track and follow-up “White Light Doorway” and they are both incredible. Via The Fader, the band offers their latest single “A Hospital + Crucifix Made Of Plastic.”

For clarity’s sake, this is not two songs. There is barely enough material to qualify it as one song, but that is not a knock. Florist employ their deadpan specificity and minimal instrumentation for another vivid expression universalizing something that seems intensely personal. What feels like hospital found sounds set a low-energy tone before light military drums come in… and that’s all that really happens. But the minimalism combined with the impassive delivery of the repeated phrase, “I am weightless, I am bone,” holds so much inexplicable gravity that the profundity is not lost. This would have fit perfectly within the Juno soundtrack. Check it out below.
