M.I.A. – “MIA OLA” + “Foreign Friend”
M.I.A. is putting in work lately. She’s shared a handful of tracks over the last few months, and just yesterday, we heard “Temple,” her collaboration with Baauer and the K-pop star G-Dragon. And today, as Pitchfork points out, she’s shared a new one called “MIA OLA.” In the song’s SoundCloud description, she’s written, “TO ALL MY FLYPIRATES and DJS – THIS IS AN ANNOUNCEMENT !!!! LIVE FROM THE MEXICAN BORDER OLA !!!! MIA ON THE WAVES.” That doesn’t exactly tell us a lot about where the song might appear in the future, but that’s fine. The song has that easy, offhand catchiness and swagger that’s entirely unique to M.I.A. It has a sample of “The Circle Of Life,” from The Lion King, as well as a reference to M.I.A.’s own “Bamboo Banga.” Listen to it below plus another new one called “Foreign Friend.”
No word yet on a new M.I.A. album, but we can hope.
