Stream Fat Tony Look EP
Young Houston rapper Fat Tony is known for the goofy, smart-aleck tendencies he displayed on 2013’s excellent Smart Ass Black Boy, but that might begin to change with the quick-strike three-track Look EP. He comes snapping right out of the gate, spitting hard over P. Morris’ beat with the menacing bass stabs from Eazy-E’s “Boyz-N-The-Hood” (and originally High Concept’s “Pump That Bass”) with a chopped-and-screwed version of TLC’s “Waterfalls” on hook for the opener “Waterfalls.” He eases up on the gas only slightly on the party anthem “Fast Life,” and then finally has some fun with his more romantic side on the West Coast-leaning “Confessions.” It seems lyrics were the focus on this one, but there’s plenty Houston with chopped-and-screwed samples, and ’80 and ’90s hits interspersed. The playfulness is reserved for the beats this time around, and Fat Tony’s rhyme’s are seriously dope. Listen.
