Cassius – “Ibifornia”
Next month, the veteran French dance duo Cassius are coming back with Ibifornia, a new album named after a fictional land that’s some combination of Ibiza and California. (This sounds like a pretty terrible place to me, but whatever.) We’ve already heard them convince Cat Power to team up with Mike D on “Action” and with Pharrell on “Go Up.” Today, we get to hear what they can do without Cat Power’s help. The album’s title track is a nine-minute instrumental jam that sounds like a version of the phrase “tropical house” that people like Kygo would not recognize. It’s lush and heady and full of animal noises, and it sounds like something Basement Jaxx might make if they were in a particularly chill place. Listen below.
Ibifornia is out 6/24 on Polydor/Interscope.
