Ta-ku & Wafia – “Meet In The Middle”
Brisbane-based songstress Wafia and Perth producer/singer Regan “Ta-ku” Matthews have come together to form a dope Aussie duo for the (m)edian EP. Ta-ku proved he was more than a notable SoundCloud beatmaker after breaking out with 2013’s Songs To Break Up To and solidified it with 2015’s Songs To Make Up To. Wafia offered a stirring debut with last year’s XXIX EP, fusing electronic downbeat with R&B sensibilities on a delicate, darkly-shaded collection of songs.
The pairing is ripe for an easy melding, and it’s apropos that the first foray into their joint project be titled “Meet In The Middle.” It’s a blending of Ta-ku’s trap-tinged, synth-dipped, soulful tendencies with Wafia’s wispy vocals floating above pleading with a partner to compromise with her. Ta-ku joins for beautiful harmonies, and the two trade cadences with ease. If this first taste is an indication, they should go ahead and expand the EP into a full album in the future. Listen.
The (m)edian EP is out 6/24 via Future Classic. Pre-order it here.
