Mikey Erg – “Boys & Girls & Tentative Decisions”
Jersey pop-punk legends the Ergs! put out their final album nearly a decade ago, so it’s with open hearts that we welcome a new iteration of the original group. After playing a slew of punk bands, Mike Yannich — bka Mikey Erg — will release his debut solo album later this month on Don Giovanni, and we’ve already heard two of its singles including “Comme Si About Me” and “Apart Time.” His latest premiered today on Brooklyn Vegan, and it’s a half-bitter, kinda-sorta breakup anthem. “Boys & Girls & Tentative Decisions” starts with a self-conscious prediction: “The words sound funny when she speaks/ And I can’t quite decipher what they mean/ She could walk out/ That’s what they always do, that’s what they always do.” But Erg’s narrator shoulders some of the blame later on when he spits out the all-too relatable line: “I can’t lie to you, but I can stretch the truth.” Listen below.
Tentative Decisions is out 6/24 via Don Giovanni Records.
