Angel Olsen My Woman Details
Last week, Angel Olsen shared a trailer for a hypnotic new synthpop song called “Intern.” The trailer didn’t even include the whole song, but it was still one of our favorite songs of the week. Today, the whole song is up on Spotify, and it’s really only a few seconds longer than what we got to hear in that trailer. But now we know that the song is our first taste of My Woman, Olsen’s follow up to her astonishing 2014 album Burn Your Fire For No Witness.
The synthier direction of “Intern” isn’t a red herring. On the new album, Olsen worked with producer Justin Raisen, who has previously collaborated with people like Sky Ferreira and Charli XCX. Here’s how a press release describes the sound of the album:
The album is put together as a proper A-side and a B-side, featuring the punchier, more pop/rock-oriented songs up front, and the longer, more reflective tracks towards the end. And because these new songs demanded a plurality of voices, Olsen sings in a much broader range of styles — her disarming, timeless voice is even more front-and-center than before.
You should always take press releases with a grain of salt, of course. But that sounds great! Below, listen to the complete version of “Intern” and check out the album’s tracklist.
