The Kills – “Desperado” (Rihanna Cover)

Veteran indie rockers the Kills are coming off of a great Conan performance of "Heart Of A Dog" a couple nights ago. Their fifth and latest full-length, Ash & Ice just dropped last week, and they are still reeling from the momentum they built for its release. Today, they've taken a step away from that album, but their verve is still palpable on their cover of Rihanna's Anti track "Desperado." They've stripped the original bare so the texture of Alison Mosshart's voice and Jamie Hince's loose, jangling guitar are the only things that remain. It has the feel of an Ennio Morricone score, harkening back to the title and it's roots in the lure and intrigue of the unsettled American West. Listen.
