Daveed Diggs Leaving Hamilton Too
After collecting a Tony and a Grammy and thereby getting halfway to the rare EGOT, Daveed Diggs will be leaving Hamilton before the musical moves to Chicago. His final show will be this Friday, 7/15. The Clipping. member played both Marquis de Lafayette and Thomas Jefferson, and broadway veterans Miguel Cervantes and Alexander Gemignani will have some huge shoes to fill. This of course follows creator, writer, and lead Lin-Manuel Miranda taking his last bow for the show a few days ago with Spike Lee, Jennifer Lopez, and John Kerry among other notable names as witnesses. Diggs hasn’t said anything publicly about his departure yet, but Miranda had these kind words to offer via Twitter:
🌍, sorry for hogging @DaveedDiggs so long. He's headed to every movie/show you ??.
SO proud we were his Bway debut. https://t.co/u78k5YYLlH— Lin-Manuel Miranda (@Lin_Manuel) July 13, 2016
In addition to the Chicago production, a touring production begins a 21-week run in San Francisco in 2017 before moving to Los Angeles. A London production is slated for 2017.
