Beyoncé’s Lemonade, Adele Live In New York City, What Happened, Miss Simone? Nomimated For Emmy Awards
The nominations for the 68th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards were announced today. While (obviously) most of the honorees are in the television realm, a few music notables and music-related projects picked up nominations as well. Here’s a quick rundown:
- Beyoncé’s Lemonade short film picked up 4 nominations: Outstanding Variety Special, Outstanding Directing for Kahlil Joseph & Beyoncé Knowles Carter, Outstanding Production Design, and Outstanding Picture Editing.
- Adele Live In New York City was nominated for 5 awards: Outstanding Variety Special, Outstanding Directing, Outstanding Hairstyling, Outstanding Lighting Design/Direction, and Outstanding Technical Direction.
- The Netflix Nina Simone documentary What Happened, Miss Simone? was nominated in 6 categories: Outstanding Documentary, Outstanding Directing, Outstanding Picture Editing, Outstanding Sound Editing, Outstanding Sound Mixing, and Outstanding Cinematography.
Additional music-related nominees include Portlandia, Grease: Live, The Wiz Live!, Vinyl, Empire, Lip Sync Battle, the Ariana Grande-hosted episode of Saturday Night Live, and Lady Gaga’s “Til It Happens To You” from the documentary The Hunting Ground.
