E-40 – “Petty” (Feat. Kamaiyah)
Bay Area legacy spitter E-40 is still going strong 30 years in the game. He’s probably the most goober-sounding rapper ever, but dude has been influential with the vernacular for decades now. He’s set to deliver a pair of albums this months, The D-Boy Diary: Book 1 and The D-Boy Diary: Book 2. He dropped the single “Slappin” a few months ago with promising up-and-comers D.R.A.M. and Nef The Pharoah. For his latest single, “Petty,” he’s recruited Oakland’s finest Kamaiyah and blessed her with the necessary E-40 co-sign and pass to blow up out of the Bay.
Over a woozy synth-driven trap beat, 40 Water tries on a Migos flow, sprinkling in his signature slang with an energy he hasn’t had on his recent features for a slick verse. Kamaiyah kills it as usual, and makes her statement — “I’m the realest chick to do this shit from the West Coast, now I run this shit” — very easy to believe. After all, how many rappers of the fairer sex have even come out of the West? The whole top 10 are from the East Coast. The only other rapper that comes to mind is Chanel West Coast and it’s laughable that she even put the region in her moniker. Anyway, Yay Area stand up. Listen.
According to this tweet from E-40, The D-Boy Diary: Book 1 and The D-Boy Diary: Book 2 are out later this month.
