Kero Kero Bonito – “Graduation”
Since their Intro Bonito mixtape came out in 2014, Kero Kero Bonito have been putting out a steady trickle of one-offs: “Flamingo,” “Build It Up,” “Picture This,” “Chicken,” “Lipslap,” and “Break.” A few of those will be included on their just-announced debut album, called Bonito Generation, alongside quite a few new tracks. One of those new ones is “Graduation,” which takes the technicolor KKB formula and applies it to the deflated joy that comes with leaving school but realizing that most of it was pointless time-wasting. “Today’s my graduation/ So long to education/ Didn’t learn a thing anyway,” Sarah Perry sings in the chorus. The verses spin a tale of lying grown-ups setting up unrealistic expectations for the future, told in both English and Japanese. It’s another gem from the UK trio, and you can listen to it and check out the album details and upcoming tour dates below.
