DJ Shadow – “What Does Your Soul Look Like — Part 1 (Prince Paul Remix)”
Endtroducing….., DJ Shadow’s debut collection of dusty trip-hop instrumentals, is one of those albums that launched a thousand imitators but has never been matched in its post-midnight waking dream-state appeal. It’s deservedly getting a 20th Anniversary Endtrospective Edition this year, with an extra disc of outtakes (Excessive Ephemera) and another that rebuilds the whole album out of remixes by top talent (Endtroducing Re-emagined). Or if you buy it on vinyl all that music is spread out across six discs instead of three.
We previously shared Clams Casino’s take on “Stem/Long Stem” and Hudson Mohawke’s “Midnight In A Perfect World” rework. And today we’ve got Prince Paul’s invigorating remix of album closer “What Does Your Soul Look Like — Part 1,” which is a big deal for Shadow: “Given that Prince Paul was one of the top 5 influences on my production style growing up,” he writes, “it’s definitely a dream come true for him to be involved with the project.” So listen up!
