At this point, Donald Trump is so far down in the polls that his surrogates in the media have to really, really grasp at straws to talk about how Hillary Clinton is somehow worse than him. For instance: Former New York Lieutenant Governor Betsy McCaughey was on CNN last night attempting to use Beyoncé’s “Formation” lyrics to explain why Clinton must not really be that offended over what Trump said in that infamous leaked tour-bus audio.

In various awkward situations, Clinton has said some nice things recently about Beyoncé. And McCaughey would like to use that as evidence that she’s actually completely OK with “lewd and bawdy” language — as if the language, rather than the sexual assault he’s describing or the toxic worldview he’s outlining, is the problem with that Trump quote. Here’s McCaughey attempting to outline Clinton’s “hypocrisy,” a word she pronounces in a really strange way:

And here’s the full quote:

I abhor lewd and bawdy language. I don’t listen to rap music. I don’t like that kind of thing… It’s fully of the F-word, the P-word, the B-word, the A-word, all that stuff… I wanted to point something out, which is that Hillary Clinton expresses that she finds the language on that bus horrific, but, in fact, she likes language like this: “I came to slay, bitch. When he F me good, I take his ass to Red Lobster.” That happens to be from Beyoncé, her favorite performer, whom she says she idolizes and would like to imitate. So you know what I’m saying to you? There’s a lot of hypocrisy in Hillary Clinton expressing such horror at the language on the bus.

Obviously, McCaughey isn’t even taking this shit seriously. But I guess you just have to keep trying if you want to keep your place within the 24-hour cable-news roundtable.
