Sam Kogon – “I Was Always Talking” (Feat. Frankie Cosmos)
Sam Kogon has been playing around New York and putting out music for a few years now, and his throwback guitar-pop has garnered its fair share of fans, one of whom is Greta Kline (bka Frankie Cosmos). Kline contributes vocals to a sharp and richly-layered track from Kogon’s upcoming new album, Psychic Tears. It’s called “I Was Always Talking,” and sees the two of them duetting on top of a scratchily baroque bed of noise.
“The song is about a friend break-up. Without giving away too much, I wrote it when I was beginning to realize that some of my friends I still knew from college were no longer my friends anymore. Funny how that works…” Kogon told Brooklyn Vegan, who premiered the song. “Anyways, in my head I heard it as a duet, with each verse sung by each friend. So after my band and I recorded the song, I asked my friend Greta to see if she’d be interested in singing on the track. She listened to a rough mix and (luckily) dug it. One evening this past February she came over and tracked her vocals in my guest bedroom closet. It was a great session.”
