Saba – “Church/Liquor Store” (Feat. Noname)
Chicago rapper Saba is set to bask in the limelight after a string of excellent guest features on his fellow Chi-Town up-and-comers’ projects. He’s gearing up to drop Bucket List, the followup to 2014’s ComfortZone, at the end of the month. We’ve already heard the synth-doused R&B slow-burner “Symmetry,” and today he delivers the Noname-assisted “Church/Liquor Store” via NPR.
Saba illustrates a harrowing Monopoly board of the Westside of Chicago on the hook: “It look like funeral home/ Church, church/ Liquor store/ Corner store/ Dread head deadly/ Ditto 10-4/ Ten foes from Cicero to Central.” But the smooth, soothing, Soulquarian-esque beat from Cam O’bi helps ease the pain he and Noname so vividly and beautifully detail. Bucket List Project is shaping up to be a no-skip healing aid. Check out “Church/Liquore Store” below.
