Watch Schoolboy Q Cover YG’s “FDT (Fuck Donald Trump)” In Melbourne
YG’s “FDT (Fuck Donald Trump)” was a protest anthem even before Donald Trump won the presidency while losing the American popular vote. And in the two days since the election, the song has metastasized, becoming pretty much inescapable. And now we’re seeing an early sign that other rappers are using the song to make some noise. Two nights ago, Schoolboy Q, on tour in Australia, did a show in Melbourne, railing to the crowd about the election: “If y’all don’t fucking know, Donald Trump is now the punk-ass President. I don’t believe your vote count anymore. I don’t believe that. I don’t believe that. Each state, everywhere I go, I don’t know one person that said they were voting for Trump — including all my white friends, including this white boy right here. He voted for Hillary Clinton, and she didn’t win. I don’t get it.” He then launched into a spirited rendition of “FDT,” with the crowd screaming along, and he posted a video of it on his Instagram. Watch it below.
Q’s admission that he doesn’t know anyone who voted for Trump says more about the different bubbles we all live in than anything else, but it bears repeating that this guy lost the popular vote. In any case, don’t expect “FDT” to go away anytime soon. It’s already the 2016 version of Kendrick Lamar’s “Alright.”
