Watch Clipping.’s Great “Air ‘Em Out” Performance On Conan
Typically, experimental noise-rap groups who make sci-fi concept albums don’t get a whole lot of play on late-night TV. But when the lead member of those experimental noise-rap groups is also a Broadway and sitcom star, things tend to change. Just a couple of weeks ago, clipping. leader Daveed Diggs was on The Tonight Show, rapping about voting next to Black Thought. And last night, he and the rest of his group were the musical guests on Conan. Together, they burned through “Air ‘Em Out,” one of the highlights from the new album Splendor & Misery. Diggs is, of course, a captivating and virtuosic performer, and it was cool seeing the way he works with the rest of the group, with all those synth textures being produced in real time. Also, more late-night shows should feature Youth Code shirts and elaborately weird percussion setups. Watch the performance below.
Splendor & Misery is out now on Sub Pop/Deathbomb Arc.
