Here’s The Trailer For Netflix’s Corny New Musical Series Soundtrack

Netflix has been expanding their roster of music-related programming, teaming up with artists like Thom Yorke, Bruce Springsteen, Sturgill Simpson, and Charli XCX. They based a whole series on Dolly Parton songs. They even had a hip-hip American Idol attempt with Rhythm & Flow.

But it’s Netflix so they gotta weigh out some decent content with some really algorithmically-induced bad, so here comes the musical drama Soundtrack, which focuses on musicians in Los Angeles. Here’s the tagline: “Love, loss and transformative luck intersect in this musical series about two struggling artists experiencing life at full volume in Los Angeles.”

Each episode will be a self-contained love story set to different music. At least judging by the trailer, it does not look good! “Every song we’ve ever heard tells us …….. love,” goes one voiceover. “You know when you hear a song for the first time and it hits you right here?” a character asks a little boy in the street. “Some! people! don’t! get! their! dream!” one of them says.

Soundtrack is a jukebox musical, and it’ll feature most of its characters singing popular songs. In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, executive producer Joshua Safran — who was also behind Smash — gave a preview of some of the artists that will be included: Etta James, Lauryn Hill, Joni Mitchell, Bonnie Raitt, Dolly Parton, the Weeknd, Bruno Mars.

Phew! Soundtrack debuts on Netflix on 12/18. Here’s the trailer:
