Emma Ruth Rundle – “Pump Organ Song”

Emma Ruth Rundle – “Pump Organ Song”

Last year, the dark and atmospheric Portland musician Emma Ruth Rundle followed collaborations with Thou and Chelsea Wolfe by releasing her own stark, intense album Engine Of Hell. It rules. Today, Rundle announces that she’ll release a new EP called Orpheus Looking Back later this month. It’ll collect three unreleased songs from the Engine Of Hell sessions, and Rundle has shared one of those three songs.

Rundle wrote the new “Pump Organ Song” on the spot in the studio, and the title is literal; she came up with the track after finding an old pump organ in the studio. It’s a stark, intense song about the end of Rundle’s marriage: “Silence is heavy, and so is this time/ And how does it end? How does it end? How does it end?”

In a press release, Rundle says, “In the year that has come since recording the song, I feel more and more connected to this love song. It is still speaking to me about the process of parting ways and how romantic arrangements change and relationships close.” Listen below.
