For the past decade and a half, the producer Ted Feighan (formerly of LA, now based in Cleveland) has been releasing instrumental records under the name Monster Rally; we premiered his single "Sunflower" way back in 2014. Today, Feighan announces plans to follow his 2022 album Botanica Dream with a new one called Echoes Of The Emerald Sands. This time around, he's doing something different. It's the first Monster Rally album with vocals, and they come from a distinguished list of collaborators.
After going heavy on samples on previous records, Monster Rally built all the tracks on Echoes Of The Emerald Sands from scratch, and he brought in collaborators like TV Girl, Toledo, Mei Semones, X-Cetra, Leisure, Sessa, Nella, Benét, Jordann, Munya, and the Allah-Las' Miles Michaud. He already released a bunch of those tracks as singles, and now he's got another one: "Own It," a lush and shimmery collaboration with Jordana, who just released her Jordanaland EP last month. Here's what Feighan says about it:
The instrumental for "Own It" started with the idea of taking a sunset cruise with someone that you love. No destination in mind, nowhere to be, just that feeling of being in your own world. I’ve been a fan of Jordana's music for years. I really love her songwriting, and her voice really pulls you into her music. Her style and vocals are the perfect fit for the track and truly make the song what it is, in my opinion. Working with Jordana on this song has been a really special experience, she’s as kind and welcoming a person as she is an artist.”
In the same press release, Jordana says, "'Own It' is about giving someone a second chance to prove their love to you. It’s a second chance after being hurt by this person, trying to get them to recognize what pushed you away in the first place.” Below, you can hear "Own It," as well as Monster Rally's recent tracks "Until The Sun Goes Down" with Toldedo, "Your Old House" with Mei Semones, and "Incredibly Blind" with TV Girl and X-Cetera.
