Swedish indie-poppers Girl Scout made their name with a series of EPs, and now they're getting ready to release Brink, the full-length debut that they recorded with Wednesday/Snail Mail collaborator Alex Farrar. We've already posted lead "Same Kids," and now they've shared the new song "Operator." The track doesn't have anything to do with the White Stripes' "Hello Operator" except that they're both catchy, riffy, fired-up garage rock tracks about telephone operators. I like the boop-beep noises.
Here's what Girl Scout leader Emma Jansson says about "Operator":
It’s really just a dumb song, isn’t it? A dumb guitar riff, dumb lyrics, and a dumb beat, and we love it just the way it is. I have no idea where the inspiration behind the lyrics came from, I have no relationship to switchboard operators, and they haven’t been around since before I was born. But wouldn’t it be fun if they were still around and they sounded really hot over the phone?
It sure would! More bands should shoot for "dumb on purpose." Hear "Operator" below.
Brink is out 3/20 on AWAL.
