Commitment Announce Debut Album Fear Of: Hear “Dog Pound”

Last year, the Philadelphia hardcore punk band Commitment quietly formed and dropped a demo. There are some familiar faces in this group. Frontwoman Tati Salazar makes indie-pop as Le Siren, and she's never been in a punk band before. Soul Glo frontman Pierce Jordan plays drums in Commitment, and the guitarist is Jake Smith, from the noisy bands Eye Flys and Backslider. (I saw Soul Glo and Backslider together once. That was a good show.) Bassist Zach Bailey used to be in Penetrode with Smith, and he's also been a member of No Qualms and Republicorpse.

Last month, Commitment signed to Get Better Records and released their demo track "Hellraiser" as a single. Today, Commitment announce their full-length debut Fear Of, and this record should be nuts. The band recorded it in Baltimore, with Jake Smith's former Eye Flys bandmate Kevin Bernstein, also of Triac. You should be advised that there's a song called "Bukakkracy." The blitzkrieg single "Dog Pound" is about as fast and angry as you'd hope, and it's all about how you're a pathetic dog. In a press release, Tati Salazar says:

Simply put, “Dog Pound” is about revenge. It’s me giving myself permission to divulge in my violent fantasies towards men that deserve such treatment. I’ve been sexualized and harassed by men since I was a literal child. I personally would love to see a world where the people subjected to the violence and fear of men match that energy and reflect it back to them. This song is for fans of Aileen Wuornos, “good for her” horror films, and anyone that’s ready to bite back.

Salazar directed the video, which gets literal with the dominance and castration imagery. Wallow in it below.
