The enigmatic UK dance duo Two Shell released their extremely cool self-titled debut album in 2024, and they followed it with the surprise LP IICONS last year. In February, they'll do a residency at the London club Phonox, playing there once a week with a list of guests that includes El B & Trim, the Belgian label Boomerang, and (hmm) Jack Harlow. Ahead of that, they've got a new single out today, and it's called "The Nightmare."
A press release frames "The Nightmare" as a positive, euphoric response to an extremely dark moment. That sounds a little galaxy-brained to me, but it's definitely a fun track. "The Nightmare" is a giddy, bouncy rave anthem with distorted Euro-club vocals that may or may not be sampled. It's a very fun track. The same is true of the B-side "Follow," which has a cartoon-funk bassline and the kind of jittery ragga samples that early rave producers loved so much. Hear both tracks below.
"The Nightmare" is out now on Young.
