Look at that fucking cover art! Wow. I have seen a lot of dog-ugly album covers in my many, many years on this planet, and it takes a lot for me to really notice another one. This one did it. The cover art for Pain Travels, the first full-length from the Leeds band Love Rarely, is the kind of thing that just reaches out and gouges you in the brain. I'm honestly impressed.
Love Rarely are an ambitious young band that exists somewhere on the emo/post-hardcore spectrum. They've got mathy time signatures, proggy structures, almost gallingly radio-ready hooks, and occasional bursts of all-out heaviness. Their music is a lot. They're joining the Callous Daoboys for an upcoming UK tour, which sounds about right.
In the past couple of years, Love Rarely have released a lot of singles, including "Disappear," which impressed us last year. "Disappear" and a handful of other previously released tracks appear on Pain Travels. Love Rarely guitarist Lew Taylor produced the album, and it comes out this spring. Today, the band shares the album's impressive, all-over-the-place opening track "Will." Below, you'll find the Alex Dixon-directed video, in which singer Courtney Levitt gets shot full of arrows and gets a faceful of lipstick.
