Cardi B Returns To SNL For Its 1000th Episode

Last night, Cardi B made her return to SNL. The Bronx rapper was previously the musical guest was in 2018, performing the same week that her debut studio album Invasion Of Privacy was released. This time, there was no grand pregnancy announcement. But she did open with a vibrant performance of "Bodega Baddie," which paid homage to her Dominican roots. She followed up with "ErrTime." Both are off of last year's Am I The Drama?. She also made an appearance in the Immigrant Dad Talk Show sketch, playing Marcello Hernández' wife.

Yesterday's show was the 1000th episode and was hosted by Alexander Skarsgård. It was the actor's first time hosting, and although he's got new movies Pillion and Charli XCX's Brat mockumentary The Moment, his opening monologue mentioned none of that. Instead he annoyed members of the SNL band and pretended to play saxophone.

Skarsgård's father Stellan made cameos in two recurring sketches, Scandinavian Movie and Immigrant Dad Talk Show. The cold open was led by Pete Davidson, who had debuted his new Netflix talk show the day before, appearing as US "border czar" Tom Homan. Former 30 Rock star Jack McBrayer cameo'd during Sarah Sherman's Weekend Update segment as a weather correspondent reporting from outside 30 Rock. And there was a bumper honoring the comedic actress Catherine O'Hara, who passed away on Friday.

In the promos for the episode, Cardi B declared her preference for wetness instead of doing dry January.

In other Cardi news, last week the lawyer who asked the rapper about her “gang affiliation” at her recent assault trial was fined. A month before that trial began last August, LA County Judge Ian C. Fusselman barred any mention of the artist's previous bad acts, including allegations of “former association with a gang or gang members during her youth.” The plaintiff’s lawyer Ron A. Rosen Janfaza violated that court order and now has to pay $1,500 by Feb. 27.

It was also announced that the next episode on Feb. 28 will be hosted by Heated Rivalry star Connor Storrie with musical guest Mumford & Sons.
