Buck Meek – “Ring Of Fire” (Feat. Adrianne Lenker)

Daniel Arnold

It's genuinely funny to release a new song called "Ring Of Fire" and have it not be a Johnny Cash cover. That's what Big Thief guitarist Buck Meek just did. His song "Ring Of Fire" isn't a cover, and it also isn't a reference. It's a vaguely countrified ramble with lyrics about "rock 'n' roll is in my soul," but it betrays zero knowledge that there's another song called "Ring Of Fire." That's a good bit.

In a few weeks, Buck Meek will release his new solo album The Mirror. Meek recorded it with the assistance of both of his bandmates. Big Thief drummer James Krivchenia serves as producer, and Adrianne Lenker sings backup on every song; her voice is quite prominent on "Ring Of Fire." People like Mary Lattimore and Jolie Holland make contributions, too. We've already posted lead single "Gasoline," and now "Ring Of Fire" is out there, too. Listen below.

The Mirror is out 2/27 on 4AD.
