Startlingly, unbelievably, this November will mark 10 years since Rae Sremmurd hit #1 with their Gucci Mane collab "Black Beatles." With that anniversary looming, the two chief architects of that hit have decided to run it back.
Rae Sremmurd mentor and label head Mike Will Made-It produced the hypnotic, new-wavey "Black Beatles" backing track, and the duo's Swae Lee provided the eerie melodic hook about rock stardom. Today there's a new Mike Will Made-It song called "Rockstar Raging" with lead vocals by Swae Lee. It isn't a direct copy of "Black Beatles" — the production is more guitar-centric, and Swae locks onto a descending hook rather than one that floats in the ether — but it's hard not to hear it as "Black Beatles Pt. 2." And honestly, as a sequel, it works pretty well. Maybe they should have just billed it that way.
