The hardcore split 7" is back, baby! Right now, Collateral and Burning Lord are two of the most energetic, commanding newish bands on the hardcore circuit. Collateral come from Florida and play fast, frantic old-school attack music; their EP We Still Know came out in 2024. Burning Lord come from Boston and make stompy, chanty hooligan music with a bit of metal crunch in its headlong splat; their album Arcane Demolition also came out in 2024. Now, the two bands join forces for a new split.
The combination of Collateral and Burning Lord makes perfect sense. Both bands are gradually climbing their way up the undercards of hardcore festival fliers, and both of them draw heavily on '80s NYHC. But the two bands are different enough that they don't feel like they're repeating each other. (This is reductive, but Collateral are more Victim In Pain-era Agnostic Front, while Burning Lord are more Best Wishes-era Cro Mags.) The two bands contribute three songs apiece to the new split, and both of them bring their A-games. I think I prefer the Burning Lord side, but it's close, and you could make an argument for either. Hear the split below.
The Collateral/Burning Lord split is out now on Fortress.
