We have a new #1 song in America, and it's a country song. With "Choosin' Texas," rising country star Ella Langley has risen to the peak of the pop chart, a historically uncommon feat that has become more of a regular occurrence during the 2020s country boom.
"Choosin' Texas" rises from #2 to #1 on this week's Billboard Hot 100, becoming Langley's first #1 hit, Billboard reports. It's the 31st song to top both the Hot 100 and Hot Country Songs charts since the Hot 100 launched in 1958. It's also the first song by a woman to top the Hot 100, Hot Country Songs, and Country Airplay charts and only the fourth song overall, joining Shaboozey's "A Bar Song (Tipsy)," Post Malone and Morgan Wallen's "I Had Some Help," and Wallen's "Last Night."
Langley co-wrote "Choosin' Texas" with Miranda Lambert, Luke Dick, and Joybeth Taylor. Lambert — from Texas — sings backing vocals on it, which adds a nice twist to a Tennesseean's midtempo lament about losing her man to a woman from the Lone Star State. Langley and Lambert also co-produced the track with Ben West; the three of them produced Langley's forthcoming album Dandelion, out April 10. This is the first time any of the song's writers or producers has reached #1. Langley and Lambert are also, regrettably, participating in Kid Rock's Rock The Country tour.
Olivia Dean's "Man I Need" is back up to its previous peak of #2 this week. It's followed by three former chart-toppers: Alex Warren's "Ordinary" at #3, Bruno Mars' "I Just Might" at #4, and Huntr/x's "Golden" at #5. Noah Kahan's new single "The Great Divide" swings in with a #6 debut, his first top 10 hit. It's also his first #1 on the Hot Rock & Alternative Songs chart after sending 10 previous tracks to that chart's top 10.
Rounding out the top 10 are Taylor Swift's "The Fate Of Ophelia," sombr's "Back To Friends," Kehlani's "Folded," and — returning to the top 10 with a Grammys bump that will likely continue as a Super Bowl bump — Bad Bunny's "DtMF" at #10.
