Denzel Curry is on an absolute fucking roll right now. The overwhelmingly energetic Florida rap great recently appeared on bangers from Maxo Kream and Knocked Loose and popped up onstage with Fred again.. in New York. But right now, Curry's big thing is the Scythe, the new collective that he calls "a family and a group." Curry formed the crew with Bktherula, Key Nyata, TiaCorine, and (formerly A$AP) Ferg. The Scythe's guest-heavy debut project Strictly 4 The Scythe comes out next month, and it looks like it's going to be a fucking blast.
Curry already shared the first single credited to the Scythe, the Bktherula/Lazer Dim 700 collab "Lit Effect." That song is extremely fun. I can say the same thing about the album track that's simply titled "The Scythe," which features Curry alongside TiaCorine and Ferg. "The Scythe" is an anarchic, fired-up stomper with a big group-chant hook and truly athletic double-time bounce verses. It's only the latest riff on the classic Three 6 Mafia formula, and I'll never get tired of tracks like that. Curry previously teamed with both of those rappers on his 2024 single "Hot One," and both songs are in the same league.
In a press release, Ferg says, "I was on one when we created this song, it was the night of my first art show… Taking the energy from the success of my show back to the booth where there was more energy with the Scythe created not only a monster of an anthem, but a moment in history!" TiaCorine says, "Denzel really showed me the power of production and trust.. My verse was for a wholeeee different beat, and Denzel is like, 'You gotta start doing bigger sounds, trust me.' So that’s what I did and, that’s how we got 'The Scythe.'"
The Ramon Castellanos-directed video for "The Scythe" is as energetic as the song. Check it out below.
Strictly 4 The Scythe is out 3/6 on Loma Vista.
