Nothing – “Never Come Never Morning”

Luke Ivanovich

On Friday, Philadelphia shoegaze institution Nothing will release their new album A Short History Of Decay, which pushed the band's sound in a bunch of different directions. This time around, frontman Nicky Palermo has put together a lineup that includes Cloakroom's Doyle Martin and Cam Smith, Best Coast's Bobb Bruno, and Manslaughter 777's Zachary Jones. Palermo co-produced it with Whirr's Nicholas Bassett at the Sonic Ranch in Texas, and we posted the singles "Cannibal World," "Purple Strings," and "Toothless Coal." Today, we get one last single before the LP arrives.

The latest Nothing song is "Never Come Never Morning," a starry-eyed psychedelic song that's built on acoustic guitar strums and big strings-and-horns crescendos. It's a far cry from the band's trademark triumphant shoegaze roar. Maybe it represents an evolution of that sound, or maybe they're just ready to show us all the different things they can do. I bet it'll go incredibly hard at their live shows. Listen below.

A Short History Of Decay is out 2/27 on Run For Cover.
