The young UK trio thistle. specialize in a grungy, sloppy form of shoegaze that smushes together a few strains of '90s revivalism. They released their debut EP it's nice to see you, stranger last year, and they're about to follow it with another one called backflip. (This is one of those bands where everything has to be lowercase.) Opening track "pieces" is out now.
"pieces" starts out as fractured big-feelings guitar-pedal music that veers a little closer to Slint territory than most of the new shoegaze acts tend to come. It builds up into something noisier, with screamy vocals and wobbly synth melodies. Frontman Cameron Godfrey directed the video, and you'll find that clip and the backflip tracklist below.
TRACKLIST:
01 "pieces"
02 "pylon"
03 "backflip in slow motion"
04 "tied"
05 "mean eye"
06 "city,name"
The backflip EP is out 5/29 on REX RECS.
