Based on name alone, it's way too easy to confuse the excellent Seattle/Tacoma fuzz-pop band TV Star with TV Girl. This is unfortunate, since TV Girl are a big band who sound nothing like TV Star. The members of TV Star come from Pacific Northwest DIY underground circles — Supercrush frontman Mark Palm plays bass in TV Star, for instance — but they make something way more crushed-out and shimmery. Now that TV Star are finally ready to drop an album, band-name distinctions will hopefully get much easier soon.
TV Star got started over the pandemic, and they've released a handful of excellent singles and EPs, like the 2024 Spiral XP collab TVXP. Their song "Texas Relation" came out last month, and now they're announcing the long-awaited full-length Music For Heads. Hey! We're heads! It's for us!
TV Star's new single "Out Of My Bag" jangles and shambles with a joyous hair-shaking energy. In a press release, the band says that it's their homage to Madchester and Britpop. I can definitely hear that, but I can also hear echoes of Pacific Northwest garage rock and power pop in there, too. It's a great combination. TV Star's own Che Hise-Gattone co-directed the song's video with Sun Spots' Kailey Morales. Check out that clip and the Music For Heads tracklist below.
