Alan Braufman Announces New Album Anthem For Peace: Hear “Angels”

Two years ago, free jazz veteran Alan Braufman, a New York City native now based in Salt Lake City, assembled an impressive band and kicked out an impressive album, Infinite Love Infinite Tears. He's got another one in the queue. Anthem For Peace is set for release in May, preceded today by lead single "Angels."

Braufman, a saxophone and flute player, brought back vibraphonist Patricia Brennan and drummer Chad Taylor from the last album's ensemble. Bassist Luke Stewart, of Irreversible Entanglements and a million other projects, is also on board here. On "Angels," a lovely sax melody like a carefree walk on a sunny day quickly spirals into post-bop chaos. Brennan's vibe work is especially mind-bending here. By the time Braufman circles back to his opening hook, you feel like you've just returned from a brief foray into another dimension.

Listen below.

TRACKLIST:
01 "Angels"
02 "The Journey"
03 "Anthem For Peace"
04 "Snow In Central Park"
05 "In Motion"
06 "Cosmic Blues"
07 "Reflections On A Rainy Day"

Anthem For Peace is out 5/15 on Valley Of Search. Pre-order it here. While I have you, I'll note that Braufman comes up a lot in his nephew Nabil Ayers' memoir My Life In The Sunshine, which is a highly worthwhile read.
