Broken Social Scene – “Hey Amanda”

Broken Social Scene made a big announcement last month: This spring they are releasing their first album in nine years, Remember The Humans, and this summer they're heading out on tour with fellow Canadian indie rock legends Metric and Stars. Today, following the release of lead single "Not Around Anymore," we're hearing another track from the new BSS.

Regarding "Hey Amanda," the band explains, "This is a song about being yourself, and how people will always question that." It's a midtempo ballad with some "Pacific Theme"-style soft-rock horns and a lovely multi-part vocal led by Kevin Drew. At times, the backing vocals dance around the mix in a way that reminds me of 50 States-era Sufjan Stevens. So I guess consider this You Forgot It In People meets Michigan? That's a version of 2003 nostalgia I can get behind.

Remember The Humans is out 5/8 via Arts & Crafts. Pre-order it here.
