As part of their ongoing tour, Nate Ruess' recently-reunited the Format have been hosting little pop-up shindigs called Saturdays In The Park, where they spend Saturdays in a nearby park doing free acoustic performances and spotlighting local organizations doing good work. Sometimes those performances include special guests, and this past Saturday in Boston Common, that special guest was Joyce Manor frontman Barry Johnson.
Johnson did solo acoustic renditions of "House Warning Party," "Constant Headache," and "Catalina Fight Song" — notably, nothing from Joyce Manor's new album I Used To Go To This Bar, which they're currently promoting on tour. Also on Saturday, Joyce Manor played Boston's House Of Blues, and Format frontman Ruess returned the favor by joining the band onstage for a song. They did "Angel In The Snow" from 2016's Cody, and as Johnson reportedly told the crowd, it was the first time they'd ever played that song in full. (They played an early version of it in 2014 according to Setlist.fm, and they tried it last week in Orlando per fans' requests before ultimately saying "yeah, we don't know it.)
